What's the Story behind Your Blog Name????

"Every Blog Name Has a Story"

What's the Story behind Your Blog Name????

First I'll share my story, then I'll talk about the Giveaway.

Story behind Kat's Almost Purrfect World's name:

When I decided that I was going to sell stuff online (at the time I didnt' know what I was going to sell) I wanted a fun catchy name, Kat's Purrfect Boutique.
Kat's Almost Purrfect World
Kat's Purrfect Boutique

Kat is the beginning of my first name, Katharine.  I also love cats and have 2 named Shasta and Pepsi.

I played on the word Kat mean cat and used the word perfect but instead made it purrfect (purr is the sound cat's make when they are happy).  Then I wanted to create a blog.  At first I named it Kat's Purrfect Boutique but as time went by I wanted to do more than just talk about the items I sell.  I wanted to talk about what I do, what is happening and mine and my daughter's life and any adventures we experience.  I said my world is almost perfect (purrfect) because my life is rapidly changing from the plans I had when I was in my 20's.  My husband and I are seperated but living in the same house, with seperate bedrooms.  It isn't the ideal situation but it is what we need to do till my daughter graduates High School in 2016.  Five and a half years to go!!!

The reason my daughter's dad and I stay together is because I can't afford to live on my own and he can't afford to pay for two households.  I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia and at this time I'm unable to work full time.  This is why I wanted an online business, so that I could work when I'm feeling good.  This also allows me to be there when Natalie, my 13 year old daughter, needs me.

This kind of looks like Shasta and Pepsi.

Questions:

1. What is your favorite all time movie?

2. How often do you go over the speed limit?

3. What really gives you the creeps?

4. What is your favorite snack?

5. Would you rather be a dog named Killer or a cat named Fluffy?

My Answers:

1. What is your favorite all time movie?

My favorite movie has to be Sound of Music.  Everything about this movie is wonder, the music, the scenery, the love story, the drama of the Nazi's, and the ending.  I could watch the movie a millon times.  Since it plays on the TV every year I have seen it ..well not  quite a million, but many times.  I can't remember if it's Thanksgiving or Easter that it plays.  It is just something that is on TV after dinner and we can just sit and relax.  Ok that was in the olden days before Videos, Dvds and Computers.
The Sound of Music (Two-Disc 40th Anniversary Special Edition)

I'm always telling my daughter how special it is that she can watch a movie when ever she wants.  To tell the thruth it takes the specialness away.  At least she never has to be like my sister, brother and I, on a side road with my dad and mom cursing (under their breath of course) the car that broke down.  We were on the way to good friends and it was a long drive.  We planned on watching Rudolf the Red Nosed Reindeer.  When my daughter was a few years old I wrapped that movie for a Gift Exchange with Santa at a Mommy & Me holiday party.  She was too afraid of Santa but was happy with the movie.

2. How often do you go over the speed limit?

Probably all the time except in a school section.  When I'm driving where there are children I always slow down, but if I'm on the main road if I don't drive fast enough I'll get run over.  Everyone drives too fast!!

3. What really gives you the creeps?

Dead fish with their head and tail on a plate.  When I was young I kept on waking my sister up because there was a fish in my bed.  I'd shake her and say, "Anne, there is a fish in my bed." over and over.  I would have been 9 and she was 12.  She finally said go make a tuna sandwich. lol  At one point the two of walked into my parent's room to complain.  We were on the left side by my mom and the Sylmar Earthquake hit.  That was the biggest earthquake that we felt when I was a child.  I remember trying to hold on to my mom's bed and being shook all around.  The magniture of that earthquake was 6.6 which is close to the size of the Northridge Earthquake which was 6.7. We lived about 35 miles from the epicenter but since our house was on a fault line we felt all earthquakes extra strong.  After the Sylmar Earthquake there were stricter building codes on buildings in Los Angeles, CA.  The main thing that is bad about earthquakes is that there is no warning.  We'll joke about earthquake weather or say watch the pets behavior, but we never know.  I don't know if it's cause of the earthquakes or the fish eyes that get me, but if I'm at a restaurant and they give me the head, I politely ask the waitress to take that part away.  This is probably why I rarely order fish.  At home I eat salmon filets and tuna sandwiches.

4. What is your favorite snack?

Tostitos Brand Tortilla Chips, 100% White Corn Scoops, Family Size (Pack of 3)

I found out that Msg is bad for people with fibromyalgia, well everyone, and that the dip has msg.  I guess I better switch to grapes which is my favorite (good for you) snack.

5. Would you rather be a dog named Killer or a cat named Fluffy?  Since I loveeeeee cats, I'd have to say cats.  I like dogs but they are more work.  My cats are much easier to take care of.  I wouldn't mind the work dogs take but with my health I can't always do what a dog needs.  Of course I think if I had a dog dragging me I'd walk more.  Maybe one day I can have a dog (there are other reasons why I can't).

Tell the Truth Thursday: 9-16-2010 What type of flooring does your personality most resemble?

http://katspurrfectboutique.blogspot.com/2010/09/what-is-your-favorite-foodbest-recipe.html

Welcome to "Tell The Truth Thursday" where the question that has been posted in my right side bar gets answered by me and you! Did you prepare your post and are you ready to drop your URL into the Linky so that we all can follow? Grab the thumb above linking it back to this blog posting and let's get started...

The question this week is :

What type of flooring does your personality most resemble? Which flooring would you prefer to resemble??

Like Red (as in Redheadriter) says, this is a wierd question.  It's also an appropriate question considering my decisions this past year.  We have just put in all new floors (except the bathroms).  I never thought I'd want all hard floors.  Who wants to do that much sweeping and swiffering, never mind mopping.  Then I dealt with owning carpets, having long haired cats plus surving the first 12 years of my daughter's life.  I remember when we bought the house in 1997 and my husband found a spot on the floor.  I said to him.. don't worry we'll have plenty more once the baby is born.  Natalie was born 5 months later in November.  Little did I know how messy kids can be.

I've never been the best house keeper but keeping things clean with a toddler (and on and on) is a huge feat.  Before I knew I had fibromyalgia I was able to keep things up.  I would always clean when we had company and I had a good routine.  I even told myself to take Monday's off.  I would usually get this huge caffene induced spurt of energy after Tuesday's Mommy and Me.  Nothing like sitting with your friends, while your babies are playing, and drinking tons of coffee.

I was proud of myself and my home.  I would cook great meals from the magazine Quick Cooking and had company often.  I would even have amazing birthday parties.  I especially liked Natalie's 5th Luau party.  This was great till I started to get weaker and weaker and then was barely able to walk.  Then I had pnuemonia for a few months.  Shortly after that I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia.  This was Fall of 2005.

At this point in my life my husband and my marriage had fallen apart and I was afraid of what would happen to me.  I still haven't figured that all out.  He and I chose to live in the same house till my daughter graduated from High School.  She just started 7th grade.  To say this hasn't been easy is putting it mildly.

With my life falling apart my carpet and house got worse and worse.  My house was a reflection of what was  happening to us.  My house was a mess and my carpets were gross.  Thank God we got a home equity loan and paid my sister to paint and her boyfriend to put in floors.  Now we have laminate wood floors that we got, from Home Depot, for 97 cents a square foot.  We had to buy about $1000 worth.
My house is only 1160 square feet.  My sister, Anne-Marie, helped paint, helped me get rid of stuff, did an amazing job on Natalie's room (I'll post pictures later) and she even helped clean up the jungle (the back yard).  We celebrated all of this, with my Mom's 80th Birthday this past June.

You can't imagine the joy I felt when our house was done.  We had gotten new floors that made our house look larger and gotten new paint in the kitchen, hallway, and all 3 bedrooms.  We painted the back bathroom, living room and entry/dining area 2 years ago.  Now we take turns sweeping and I started to wash the floors with Murphy's Oil. Murphy's Oil Soap, Original Formula - 16 fl oz I have to make sure no one is around cause even when it seems dry it's easy to create foot prints.  When the cats shed (it's that time of year again) I can see the fur fly and it's easy to pick it up or sweep it.  House work is never easy for me.  I'm always wiped out after just 15 minutes, but at least it's more productive now.Mr. Clean Magic Eraser Cleaning Pads, 8-Count Box

Now I want a beautiful rug next to my bed.

Whew!!  Why wonder it took me till Thursday AM to write this.  All the emotions and thoughts that flooring brought me.  Read what Red wrote.  She is an amazing writer and had me lulled into a great story.  She always makes me wish I was her next door neighbor.

31 Days to a Better Blog. Day 1- An Elevator Pitch

I started to work on this last week because I knew I was going to be busy this week.  When I started my elevator pitch it turned into the complete "about me" page in my blog.  I was really motivated after learning about elevator pitches.

The short version is this:

My blog started out as an extention of my e-BAY store "Kat's Purrfect Boutique".  I named my blog Kat's Almost Purrfect World because my life is far from perfect and I wanted to connect to my love of cats and my name
Kat harine.  Anyways,  I realized that my blog would be more fun if it was about me, my daughter, my cats and my life.  I wanted to share what it's like to have fibromyalgia and why I started to sell Barbies and more online.

If you want to read more about me, click on my About Me page.

Yeah, I finally have a Header

Kurt, my daughter's dad, is a graphic designer.  When I was looking at more instructions on how to do a header it said something about working on the pictures in photoshop.  I thought, wait a minute, Kurt was working with photoshop when most of the world didn't even know of it's existence.  So I sent him pictures and showed him examples of headers I liked.  Wala!!  I have one!!

I'm pleased as punch!

The picture of my daughter, in the header, is four years old but I just love that photo.  She dressed her and Pepsi up and called me to take a photo. It was her 8th Birthday and I had a camera waiting.  Now a days she takes photos of herself which I appreciate cause she catches moments when she's playing with her makeup or just goofing off.

She loves to wear wiskers and say meow to everyone. lol

Natalie normally doesn't wear this much makeup.  She was playing around with it and having fun.  The lucky girl doesn't need even mascara because her eyelashes are long and naturally dark.

I love my daughter so much and I'm very proud of her.  I know that next school year will be a better year for her.

My room remodel in progress.

Here are some pictures of my room after it was painted. It's slowly coming back together. I'll keep you posted as it transforms to my perfect sanctuary.

My closet (the whole room is that paint color).

The floors were redone in every room, in my house, was done with this floor.  Gorgeous for 99 cents a square foot.  My sister and I are still amazed at the price.

Since I have 2 long hair cats, having hard wood laminate floors is easier to clean.  Shasta and Pepsi are shedding now.

My beautiful babies.
My desk that has been moved to the left of the AC unit.

Isn't the bottechelli angel paint gorgeous? It's so peaceful and relaxing.

The paint was too pink so my sister mixed in more off white.  You can see the color in the back of the closet.

My Jewelry Organizer is shorter and perfect for bracelets. I'llhave mine on my dresser.  I have one more in perfect condition that I'm selling for $14.99

I have this acrylic candle holder, with a pink candle to the left of my bed.  I'm looking for reading sconses for over the bed.

I'll be posting more as I finish my room.  We had to focus on the kitchen and the backyard for my mom's 80th on June 6th.  I'm waiting for my sister to send me pictures of that.

First Blog Post

Mona @ More Milestones is doing a new blog promotion about first posts.
 Link to More Milestones

This is embarrassing! When I first started to blog I created a new blog instead of new posts (oops!). I had great ideas but.. After a few months I realized what I had done wrong. I was really good at blogging at first and then I wasn’t. Then I wanted to switch to godaddy’s blog but realized that wasn’t easy, so I recently switched back to blogger. I switched back after finding blogfrog. Blogfrog has been a life saver in more ways than one.

Here is a link to my first blog:

Here are some of my favorite blogs that I've done before blogfrog:
