Today I'm checking out the blogs from the people I met at the SoCAL Blog Social. When I get pictures I'll post about my day. The highlight was meeting Mark Montano. What a kind and amazing person he is.
Anyways, one of the blogs belongs to Melody Munoz and she is going to volunteer/teach an art Journaling class to underpriviledged children in San Bernadino.
She is trying to raise money for this to buy supplies for 45 students. Since I used to teach 2nd grade in the inner city I know how expensive it can be to buy supplies for a classroom. At first I didn't have crayons and had to borrow and buy them. By the end of my first year teaching I has spent $1,000 to make my classroom more special. Where my daughter goes to school now they have no problems asking us for supplies and all the parents get a list at the beginning of the school year. When you teach for a poor school you can't do that but you want the students to have the same chances.
With her Art journal program Melody will help the children express themselves and process the world around them.
I'm going to see if I can help her raise money and I can't do it alone. If you want to help, go to her site http://www.melodynuze.com and learn more about this program.
